Fellow abinit users,
I have also run into memory problems with the GW on an IBM SP-2.
More details later...

Dear Lu-Fa Fu,
to give you an exact answer why the code
stops, you need to specify better the exact message
the log file is giving you.
IMay be it's true that the allocation where it stops requires
only 900MB, but probably the code has already allocated
in the previous steps the other 600MB to fill the gap
up to 1.5GF of your system.
So check in the log file also the total amount of memory
allocated up to the break point.
Finally, I think you could have also the possibility to configure
better your system
(a unix system?) or your account,
to allow for more swap memory. so that the code can run
up to at least 3GB.
You could ask your system manager for this.
