Hello,

XCrySDen (http://www.xcrysden.org/), may be helpful for this purpose.
This can be downloaded freely, but you might want to read the license:
http://www.xcrysden.org/License.html
Then, kindly visit the registration page:
http://www.xcrysden.org/Register.html

An example (snapshot) of vector visualization can be found:
http://www.xcrysden.org/doc/intro.html
The documentation for the file format is available:
http://www.xcrysden.org/doc/XSF.html
The section "Specification of Forces" may also be useful
for the visualization of phonon eigenvectors.
The animation feature might also be usefull; kindly see the section
"Specification of Animated XSF format" in the documentation.
(I have not tried this animation feature for this purpose...)

Before the XCrySDen 0.9.x, I had used another code (Plotmtv)
just to take a look at eigenvectors... The note can be found:
~ABINIT/Infos/Miscellaneous/PLOTMTV_Phonons
An example made with the code can be found :
~ABINIT/Infos/Images/mode.png
Obviously, the latest XCrySDen appears better.

Hope this helps,
Masayoshi

Dear Colleagues,

I believe this question may have been raised before. Is there a
freeware program for the display and animation of vibrational eigenvectors
for solid state systems?

Thanks very much,

D.D. Klug
