You can still use an ftp client, (I got 4.5.2 yesterday, and tried 4.4.3 just now) but why the decision was made to hide the final directories under ftp, I don't know.  ftp to ftp.abinit.org.  Log in as anonymous.  cd to pub/abinitio, where "ls" still works.  Now cd to ABINIT_v4.4.3 (or your choice).  "ls" doesn't work here, but the directory is not empty.  "get abinit-4.4.3.tar.gz" works, noting that this has a hyphen, not an underscore.  Whoever defeated the old ftp access, PLEASE at least leave this method alone!  Many users have proxy issues.
