There is a workaround : compile ABINIT using the CPP flag
-DCHGSTDIO
(See the file ~ABINIT/Infos/makefile_macros_help for more information).

In this case, the "files" file filename is automatically set to ab.files
(not to dft.files erroneously mentioned in the makefile_macros_help , see the routine iofn1.F90) .
Use this name for your "files" file.

With this trick, you do not need to pipe any filename to the code.
