Hi,
The problem is likely that you are using a 32 bits linux kernel on a 32 bits cpu. Whatever the amount of swap no process is able to allocate more than 2 - 4Gbit of memory on such a system. You may need to switch to a 64 bits arch. However, one, swapping will make your calculation awfully low; two abinit sometimes underestimate the amount of memory needed.

Dear Abiniters,These days, I performed a calculation which will need 2.7G memory. My PC physical memory is 512M. However, although I set the swap=5G (virtual memory), the Abinit always stop when it start to calculate. At the end lines of the log file, it says:forrtl: severe (41): insufficient virtual memory

How can I solve this problem?
Thanks!
