Dear colleagues,

The European Theoretical Spectroscopy Facility (ETSF) invites proposals from interested scientists in academia and industry all year round onhttp://www.etsf.eu. Proposals are evaluated twice a year. The deadline for submission for the autumn evaluation is Monday 27th October 2008 17:00. This call follows the successful spring 2008 call. Within the spring call 38 pro jects were evaluated, involving 124 researchers from 36 different institutions. Of these, 20 collaborative and 5 training projects were accepted, accounting for 66% of success.

Through the ETSF, each user, whether from academia or industry, obtains easier and wider access to world-leading theoretical spectroscopy research and training tools. In a similar manner to a synchrotron, the ETSF is structured in beamlines covering fields of interest in theoretical spectroscopy such as optics, quantum transport, time-resolved and photo-emission spectroscopies. Information on the website allows users to easily identify the most appropriate beamline. We invite you to contact one of us for further information and discussion concerning their project ideas.

The types of projects which may be eligible are diverse, including scientific collaboration, consultancy, software downloads, and participation in training events. The application forms can be found on-line at http://www.etsf.eu/index.php?page=calls

Submitted projects will be evaluated by an external scientific board on the basis of scientific excellence. An internal panel is in charge of evaluating the feasibility of the proposals. The successful proposers will be attributed some “beamtime”, which means that ETSF scientists will dedicate their knowledge, competence and time to the specific needs of the user. Some of the successful applications will be funded by the EC through the “ETSF-I3” pro ject (January 2008 - December 2010), an ICT-based e-infrastructure.

The official press release of the call is attached below.

Please do not hesitate to contact one of us if further information is required.

Best regards,
