I would add that V_Sim has a plug-in to directly read the .in files of
ABINIT. This plug-in is available for Ubuntu hardy x86_64 (see
http://inac.cea.fr/L_Sim/V_Sim/download.html) or can be compiled for
any other systems (it requires V_Sim 3.4 and ABINIT 5.6 and a bit of
knowledge for both of the programs).
V_Sim is also available from Debian (currently 3.4.2 in unstable) but
without the ABINIT plugin.
Finally, thanks to the OpenBabel plug-in, many other formats are
readable. A XSF plug-in is also available to read the XCrysDen files.
Both plug-ins are available in the Debian archive.
