I found this

It says that ABINIT is interfaced in MAPS which offers a user friendly GUI. So is this software legal (have GNU General Public Licence. )?
I am not a lawyer, but please, consult http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License ,
(especially "The GPL in court" about the issue of dynamical linking and what is called a "derivative work").
There should be no part of ABINIT in MAPS.
It must be said that Scienomics contacted the ABINIT advisory board a few years ago, to see whether
ABINIT could be delivered by them with MAPS, and it was answered that they should stick to the
GNU GPL. Last year, they proposed to sponsor the 2009 ABINIT developer workshop,
and this was accepted (see http://www.abinit.org/about/?text=thank_ABINIT) .
