Dear all,
The European Theoretical Spectroscopy Facility (ETSF) is publishing the Spring 2009 Call for Proposals on its web site [1]. The deadline for the projects submission is at 17:00 CET of 7 April 2009.
Interested scientists, from academia and industry are invited to submit a proposal. Different kind of projects can be submitted: from requests for scientic collaboration, dedicated training, calculations, to specic theory and code developments in the field of theoretical spectroscopy. The application forms, together with comprehensive information on the ETSF and its expertise, may be found on-line at http://www.etsf.eu .
In a similar manner to a synchrotron, the ETSF is structured in beamlines [2] covering fields of interest in theoretical spectroscopy such as optics, quantum transport, time-resolved and photo-emission spectroscopies. Information on the web site allows users to easily identify the most appropriate beamline. All potential users are invited to contact the relevant beamline scientist for further information and discussion concerning their project ideas. Projects can be submitted all year round and are evaluated twice a year in spring and autumn. The evaluation procedure will be carried out by an external scientic board on the basis of scientic excellence. An internal panel is in charge of evaluating the feasibility of the proposals. The successful proposers will be attributed some "beamtime", which means that ETSF scientists will dedicate their knowledge, competence and time to the specic needs of the user. Some of the successful applications will be funded by the EC through the "ETSF-I3" project (January 2008 - December 2010), an ICT-based e- infrastructure. The spring and autumn 2008 calls saw the submission of 66 projects involving 198 researchers from 60 different institutions with a ratio 64% of success.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if further information is required.
Best regards,
Gian-Marco Rignanese
