Dear ABINITS
I am new in field of computation and ab-initio studies. We have started with
ABINIT from last few months although slow but
steady.
We wish to buy server but we are bit confused about it so please help
us to decide about it.
1) Whether shared memory or distributed memory will be advisable.
2) Whether code will suit AMD processor or Intel or Alpha of Copaq(Let me
know if question is not relevent).
Intel processors have higher clock than Alpha but I am under the impression
that the TRU64 that Compaq is giving along with its hardware will best suit
and it will be better choice for any sort of upgrade as well as compiling any
new code. Is this correct about TRU64 and Compaq?. (How much this clock
will affect the speed as compare to the other parameters affecting the
speed?)
3) Is 64-bit processor will be helpful and will it be advisable as per
the cost and speed being the parameters to decide upon(balance).
4) Will it be advisable to go for beowulf cluster, according to its
make the communication will be faster ~GHz and AMD processors.
Will Compaq Alpha mid-level servers will be better choice?
Kindly reply elaborately.
Thanking you for kind cooperation
Waiting for your replies
With regards and all best wishes
