If you don't care for timings it might be possible to remove the
timing routine and replace it with a simple functions returning zero
whatever the input.

Thanks for raising this interesting point. The remaining output files
also share this symptom. There's a huge amount of time dedicated to this
routine as opposed to the remaining ones.

Is there any way to circumvent this problem ?
