In both cases when the configure script looks for an usable library, the check action doesn't find what it needs.
I'm compiling with gfortran and the Open-MPI and MPICH libraries installed from binaries on a Linux Ubuntu distribution.
This cannot work, because binary packages on all Linux distributions have Fortran 90 support disabled.
You have to recompile MPI from the sources if you want to ba able to build ABINIT with MPI support.
