Without much knowledges about your systems, I would say that
with 4GB per core you'll get 32GB (right ?) per node which seems
enough for most calculations. Especially considering the "slow" memory
interface of intel 5000 (when doing big computation you'll probably
use effectively only two cores per cpu). Unless your systems are going
to be extremely big your most likely safe with this amount.

The best for you is to try to evaluate the amount of memory you are
going to use. For instance by doing the same kind of calculation but
unconverged... And then scale the memory use with the ratio of your
converged calculation.
