You should look where MPICH is installed and add  
--with-mpi-prefix=/path/to/mpich.

The mpif90 executable should be in /path/to/mpich/bin/.

If you don't see any test number after this line, it means that things  
do work.

This is not dirty at all, but a way of sorting the directories by  
build order. Not only normal, but purposefully designed so.
