g95 from www.g95.org is a different development branch of the gnu gfortran (officially part of gcc 4.0.2). For the record, I have had no problems compiling abinit with g95 (whereas gfortran failed when I tried it a few months ago). Note that both are under development, but g95 is updated on a daily basis, while it seems that gfortran is updated at a slower pace (based upon my limited observations). g95 has a large list of different analytical codes that it is claimed the g95 on www.g95.org can compile. abinit is one of them. I can say that I have been compiling abinit (in the parallel and serial) forms on my Mac g5 system here at work with no troubles whatsoever. In fact, while the earlier 4.6.x had minor compiler errors that were trivial to fix (e.g. lines too long, etc.), the latest version compiles out of the box with nothing but a few warnings here and there. I am running abinit under mpich2 (from ANL) which also compiles out-of-the-box on mac os x as well. If you have not tried the g95 compiler it might be worth giving it a try.
I do recall Nuno Bandeira noted there were some problems on windows a while back, but this may not be the case any more.

Paul

p.s. g95 is compiled under gcc 4.0.2 as well and get generate 64 bit code as well (handy to use all the memory I stuffed in the G5)

No, gcc 4.0.2 is not able to compile abinit (for as much as I know).
In fact 4.0.2 is the latest release.
The actual last snapshot is 4.1.yyyymmdd
Yet you won't find snapshots in evry mirror. You have to find one like this one:
ftp://ftp.irisa.fr/pub/mirrors/gcc.gnu.org/gcc/
Which is hosting snapshots.

Then download one and try it. Some may fail.

for instance I'm using
gcc 4.1.0 20051015 which works pretty fine for current (5.0.0)
development version of abinit.

Greetings

Thanks in advance
