Dear Alain,
   I firstly tried "config/gnu/install-sh -d brol/brol2", it worked without 
any
mistakes. The directory brol and its subdirectory brol2 had been successfully
created. I then typed "ls -la brol", the brol2 directory was displyed. Indeed,
"rm -rf brol" and "mkdir -p brol/brol2" both worked successfully.
I then typed "which mkdir" and "which chmod", results were "/usr/bin/mkdir" 
and
"/usr/bin/chmod", respectively.
