Your bigdft tar file is corrupted. I downloaded the one from abinit site (http://wwwold.abinit.org/plugins/bigdft-1.2.0.2.tar.gz) and it can be unpacked without problem.
The original takes 944219 bytes, can be checked with sha1sum ... SHA1(bigdft-1.2.0.2.tar.gz)= 1a3754261c6229be17d3cecb70720fefaf843642 or md5sum ... MD5(bigdft-1.2.0.2.tar.gz)= d827ae34c29d75c8310b2dad40c6e50c.
I can only suggest to download it again with a wget or curl, move it to /home/phzting/.abinit/tarballs and check it with a tar tvzf bigdft-1.2.0.2.tar.gz. And if you have the right checksum, please mention your platform, gzip version (gzip -V) and tar version (tar --version)
